Volunteers

Special Olympics would not exist today and could not have been created without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of Special Olympics volunteers. Special Olympics relies on volunteers at all levels of the movement to ensure that every athlete is offered a quality sports training and competition experience.

Volunteering for Special Olympics can be a life-changing experience not just for the athletes, but for you as well. Around the world, Special Olympics sports training and competition, and related programs promoting participation and inclusion, transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. And when volunteers come together with athletes with intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics, longstanding myths are dispelled, negative attitudes changed, and new opportunities to embrace and celebrate people with differences are created.

Unified Partner Release Form

This form must be downloaded, printed, filled out, and sent to your local area director for any individual who will be training as a Unified Sports (R) Partner on a Special Olympics Team. The Unified Sports Partner Release form must be on file with the local Chapter office prior to the occurrence of sport training.

It is important to remember that Unified Sports Partners (age 18 and above) are technically considered "Class A" Volunteers and therefore are subject to the same policy requirements as other delegation volunteers.

This means all "Adult" Unified Sports Partners must complete and submit a standard Volunteer Application in addition to the Unified Partner Application.
